The Machame route is the most popular camping route on the mountain and usually takes 6 or 7 days. This route is regularly referred to as the “Whiskey” route. The Machame route is highly successful route to the summit as climbers have the opportunity to climb high and sleep low because of the campsite locations, which helps with acclimatization.

The Machame route is the most scenic route on the mountain offering beautiful views and a challenging trek. The days are long and the trails are steep, however the various landscapes are incredibly beautiful and diverse. The route approaches the summit from the southwest and descends using the Mweka route, providing views of the expansive Shira Plateau.
